ALTERR SWJP

Throughout the history of cycling, the paths of Japan and the United States have crossed time and again.

For instance, it is not widely known that Japan’s superior manufacturing technology and quality played a crucial, behind-the-scenes role in supporting the MTB/ATB movement—which originated in the U.S. and spread across the globe during the 1980s.

This is an experimental project driven by us—a team with roots in both Japan and the United States.

"SWJP" is an apparel label co-designed and co-creatively directed by Los Angeles-based Sean Wotherspoon and Tokyo-based Uchi.

For this project, they have reimagined FUJI’s "ALTERR"—a model that captures the spirit of the influential ATB (All-Terrain Bike) culture of the 1980s and 90s—using SWJP’s signature, skillful color-blocking.

True to their history of creating new products inspired by vast vintage archives, they drew upon the "fade color" style—a technique frequently used during the genre's golden age when manufacturers vied to showcase their unique identities through gradients blending different colors at the front and rear of the frame. Starting with the ALTERR’s debut "Night Club" colorway, the design transitions via smooth gradients into a palette of blue, purple, green, and peach—colors characteristic of SWJP—resulting in a bold bicycle that presents a completely different aesthetic when viewed from the front versus the rear.

Furthermore, the cockpit area features "Bullmoose" handlebars—which are rapidly gaining renewed appreciation alongside the recent "Old MTB" trend—and OGK grips, a brand that remains committed to domestic Japanese manufacturing. It comes with special specifications, including a sticker sheet featuring SWJP graphics.

The "ALTERR SWJP"—a special model where the context of the times and the iconic color schemes of the respective brands naturally intersect—is scheduled to arrive and go on sale this summer in limited quantities.
